Demolition of Illegal Santorini-Inspired Buildings in Cameron Highlands

Yesterday (5th), a well-known tourist attraction in Cameron Highlands, known for its Santorini-inspired architecture, was demolished by the Cameron Highlands District Council due to unauthorized construction.

In a statement on Facebook, the Cameron Highlands District Council explained that the enforcement action was taken under Section 70(1) of the Roads, Drains, and Buildings Act 1974 (Act 133) for constructing buildings without the necessary approvals.

The demolition took place between 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM, led by Cameron Highlands District Council President Azmir Hadi. The operation included personnel from the district council, Cameron Highlands Land Office, police, Pahang enforcement units, Cameron Highlands Public Works Department, and Tenaga Nasional Berhad."

This enforcement action serves as a reminder and lesson that all procedures and regulations must be fully complied with before undertaking any construction projects," the statement emphasized.To ensure safety during the operation, Cameron Highlands police officers were deployed to the site, and the demolition proceeded smoothly without any incidents.

The popular tourist spot, which earned the nickname "Santorini," had only begun operations in April of this year. It quickly gained fame, attracting many domestic and international tourists. Entry fees were RM40 for adults and RM20 for children aged 5 to 12.
